Early Start Discovery Space is the first dedicated children’s museum in the world located on a university campus. Offering interactive experiences and educational programs, this innovative space caters to children aged birth to 10 years and their families. Guided by UOW researchers, the experiences provided are evidence-based and designed to promote children’s development through play.
At Early Start Discovery Space, children are encouraged to explore, create, and share their imagination in a stimulating environment that fosters curiosity, independence, and social interaction. The museum operates under the philosophy of a ‘partnership of play’, where children, families, and educators collaborate as co-learners and creators. Supported by the University of Wollongong and The Abbott Foundation, the Discovery Space aims to create inclusive and enriching experiences for all visitors.
With a focus on promoting the power of play, Early Start Discovery Space welcomes collaborations with like-minded organizations to enhance the play experiences offered. By staying connected with the latest news and events, visitors can engage in a range of activities that inspire creativity, curiosity, and a sense of community. Through acknowledging and respecting the land’s traditional custodians, the Discovery Space is committed to truth-telling, healing, and education in alignment with Aboriginal values and relationships.
