Victoria Park is a large recreational area situated in Ballarat, known as one of the city’s most significant parks. Established on 23 May 1890, the park holds historical significance as citizens came together to plant over 3000 trees to commemorate Victoria’s first Arbor Day. The park features an inclusive play space with multiple play zones and accessible equipment designed for individuals of all abilities, fostering a sense of community and connectedness.
The Inclusive Play Space at Victoria Park, opened in 2016, welcomes approximately 140,000 visitors annually, catering to children, parents, grandparents, and carers of all ages and abilities. This space is not solely dedicated to individuals with disabilities but is designed to be utilized by everyone, promoting inclusivity and social interaction. The project was made possible through the collaborative efforts of community and business partners, as well as the advocacy of the Disability Advisory Committee, aligning with the park’s commitment to accessibility and diversity.
Victoria Park’s Inclusive Play Space is part of the Livvi’s Place Network, embodying a philosophy of creating environments that encourage play, socialization, and community engagement for all. The park acknowledges and pays respect to the Traditional Custodians of the land, the Wadawurrung and Dja Dja Wurrung People, recognizing their enduring connection to the land and waterways. Through its inclusive design and commitment to accessibility, Victoria Park stands as a testament to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all individuals to enjoy.
