Theatre Works is one of Australia’s longest-running independent theatres, dedicated to reinvigorating and reimagining the sector by providing a platform for artists and audience development. They acknowledge First Nations’ sovereignty and strive to support and contribute to the process of Reconciliation, respecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. Theatre Works aims to be the epicenter of independent theatre in Australia, empowering artists of all backgrounds to create ambitious works that reflect contemporary Australian society.
With a team of dedicated professionals, including Production, Marketing, Artistic, and Creative specialists, Theatre Works offers a supportive environment for artists to explore diverse performance styles and creative methodologies. Their values prioritize artists’ development, creative freedom, sustainability, and diversity. Since 2017, Theatre Works has supported over 1,000 artists across 73 productions, with a significant increase in audience attendance. Through partnerships with Creative Victoria, the Australia Council for the Arts, the City of Port Phillip, foundations, and donors, Theatre Works continues to expand its impact and value to emerging artists. By offering new development opportunities and curated annual seasons that push creative boundaries, Theatre Works remains a distinctive and vital player in the Victorian arts ecology.
