St Mary’s North Tamworth Preschool is a small, friendly, and caring preschool located in the original St Mary’s Infants School building, which was constructed in 1939. Since its establishment as a preschool in 1991, St Mary’s has been dedicated to nurturing young children as they embark on their educational journey. The preschool consists of two rooms that can be utilized as one large space or separately, offering a range of experiences to cater to different learning styles and preferences.
At St Mary’s Preschool, a strong emphasis is placed on creating a nurturing and inclusive environment for all families and children. The curriculum incorporates teachings about Aboriginal culture, and the preschool proudly flies all three flags of the nation in recognition of the First Nations and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The outdoor spaces at St Mary’s, such as the sandpit, mud kitchen, cubbies, and fort, are designed to encourage imaginative play, social interaction, and physical development while also providing opportunities for learning and exploration.
In addition to the engaging indoor and outdoor spaces, St Mary’s Preschool offers unique experiences such as caring for chickens, interacting with a therapy dog named Jessie, and participating in activities around a campfire. These experiences not only enhance the educational journey of the children but also promote emotional regulation, empathy, and a sense of community within the preschool. St Mary’s commitment to providing a holistic and enriching early childhood education is evident in its history, philosophies, and dedication to creating a supportive learning environment for all children.
