The San Giorgio La Molara Community Centre, established in 1976 by a group of migrants from San Giorgio La Molara, is a hub dedicated to preserving traditions, culture, and fostering social connections. Located in Payneham, the Centre began in an old church and has since expanded to include a new hall, San Giorgio’s Reception Room, which can accommodate up to 400 people. The Centre, with 273 active members, focuses on maintaining San Giorgesi traditions while reaching out to the broader Italian and local communities.
Embracing the rich heritage of the San Giorgesi community, the Centre offers a variety of social, sporting, and cultural activities and events. With a strong emphasis on tradition and community, the Centre provides hall hire services for corporate, family, and community functions. The dedicated Management Committee, supported by volunteers, has played a crucial role in the growth and development of the Centre, with many members contributing their time and resources towards its expansion.
With a majority of members aged over 70, reflecting the migration patterns of the 1950s and 1960s, the San Giorgio La Molara Community Centre remains a vital link to the past while looking towards the future. Committed to preserving San Giorgesi customs and strengthening connections within and beyond the Italian community, the Centre continues to serve as a welcoming space for cultural exchange, celebration, and community engagement.
