Reid Early Childhood Centre is a 67-place, community-oriented practice located in the central suburb of Reid, Canberra. Situated on the grounds of the Reid Campus of the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT), the Centre offers education and care for children aged six weeks to five years old. With a focus on early education theory, experienced educators work collaboratively with children to consolidate learning, build relationships, and engage in discussions, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.
Under the leadership of Dana, the Centre Director since 2020, Reid Early Childhood Centre values respect and inclusion, embracing children’s diverse perspectives and ideas. The Centre provides flexible learning environments designed to promote children’s curiosity and autonomy, with various spaces dedicated to specific areas of learning and experience. Emphasizing sustainability, children are educated on the importance of repurposing and recycling, instilling a sense of responsibility towards the environment and encouraging informed choices.
Previously managed by a parent-led committee, Reid Early Childhood Centre is now overseen by YWCA Canberra, upholding the values and ideals established by the former committee. Committed to preserving the engaged and connected community, YWCA Canberra actively participates in the Centre’s daily life, maintaining strong relationships with families and staff members. With a focus on high-quality education and care, the Centre continues to be an integral part of the Reid community, providing a nurturing and inclusive environment for children and families.
