The Redemptorist Community Library, located in the Formation House in Kew, Melbourne, caters to the diverse community residing there, including priests, academics, students, and supporting staff. Led by librarian Sandra McDowell, the library houses an extensive collection of literature ranging from textbooks for student studies to research materials for academics. Specializing in systematic theology, biblical studies, moral theology, ethics, and sociology of religion, the library also boasts a significant section dedicated to Redemptorist history and mission, along with poetry, novels, and political biographies.
One of the library’s notable features is the Social Justice Library curated by Fr Bruce Duncan CSsR, situated within the Study Centre of Yarra Theological Union. This collection serves students pursuing Social Justice Units for their degree programs, offering resources on the history and theory of social justice, Catholic social teaching, environmental issues, economic development, and peace and conflict studies. With a focus on providing top-notch resources, the library is accessible on Wednesdays and by appointment with the librarian.
While not open to the general public, the Redemptorist Community Library facilitates book borrowing through interlibrary loans or arrangements with the librarian. With a commitment to supporting the educational and research needs of its community members, the library stands as a valuable resource hub for theological studies, social justice advocacy, and intellectual enrichment.
