Detailed Information

The Old Mill Theatre, based in one of the most historic buildings in South Perth, has a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1899 as a Mechanics Institute Hall. Renamed the Mends Street Hall in 1913, the building became the home of theatre in 1948 when the South Perth Dramatic Society moved in. The theatre officially adopted the name Old Mill Theatre in 1958 and was incorporated in 1959, celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2009. With major renovations and extensions completed over the years, the theatre continues to thrive as a not-for-profit organization supported by the City of South Perth.

Governed by a dedicated Board of Management, the Old Mill Theatre operates as a community-driven organization with a focus on providing high-quality live theatre experiences in Perth. Volunteers play a crucial role in the theatre’s operations, whether on stage or behind the scenes. Membership opportunities are available for individuals interested in acting, directing, or contributing in various capacities, with membership fees supporting the theatre’s activities and providing insurance coverage for members. The theatre’s commitment to inclusivity and community engagement is reflected in its emphasis on involving individuals from diverse backgrounds and skill sets.

As the Old Mill Theatre prepares for its upcoming production presented by Bel Canto Performing Arts, audiences can look forward to a showcase of talent directed by Blake Jenkins. With a strong reputation for delivering exceptional theatrical performances, the theatre invites individuals to subscribe to its mailing list and follow its journey on social media. By acknowledging and respecting the Traditional Custodians of the land, the Old Mill Theatre embodies a commitment to cultural awareness and inclusivity in all aspects of its operations.
