MPAS operates the Mount Martha Observatory, which serves as a hub for educational activities, research initiatives, and recreational stargazing. As one of the first registered amateur observatories in Australia, the facility plays a crucial role in advancing the society’s mission of promoting astronomy. Over the years, MPAS has evolved to cater to its growing membership base, now boasting around 300 members from Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula. With a rich history spanning more than five decades, MPAS continues to inspire curiosity and exploration in the field of astronomy. From its humble beginnings in Frankston to its current home at The Briars, the society has adapted and grown to meet the evolving needs of its members and the broader community. Through initiatives like Telescope Learning Days, aurora alert networks, and educational presentations, MPAS remains at the forefront of astronomical education and outreach in the region. By fostering a sense of wonder and discovery, the society invites individuals of all ages to explore the wonders of the universe.
