The Launceston Basketball Association (LBA) was established in November 2016 through the merger of several prominent basketball leagues and associations in the region. As the largest association in Tasmania by member numbers, LBA offers a platform for basketball enthusiasts of all ages to participate in various leagues and competitions. With a dedicated team of staff, including a General Manager, Operations Manager, and Referee Manager, as well as a committed group of volunteers, LBA ensures the smooth functioning of its operations.
One of the key features of LBA is its inclusivity, allowing participants to play for any club under the association’s umbrella. The representative team, Launceston Lightning, competes in the Basketball Tasmania TJJJL Northern Conference with approximately 20 teams. The association has received recognition for its excellence, winning awards such as the 2019 and 2021 Association of the Year, as well as individual accolades like the 2019 Senior Referee of the Year and various Administrator of the Year awards.
With a strong focus on community engagement and development, LBA not only promotes the sport of basketball but also fosters a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship among its members. The association’s commitment to providing high-quality programs and services is evident through its recognition as the 2023 Aussie Hoops Centre of the Year in Tasmania. Guided by a dedicated Board of Directors and supported by a passionate team of staff, LBA continues to be a driving force in the local basketball scene, shaping the future of the sport in the region.
