Hills Community Toy Library (HCTL) has a rich history dating back to 1979 when it was established as Hills Community Toy Library Resource Centre (HCTLRC) by four local Kindergartens. Over the years, the organization evolved and in 1991, it became incorporated as Hills Community Toy Library Inc. (HCTL). The library is now located in Aldgate, offering a wide selection of carefully chosen toys, games, and puzzles to support children’s development.
At HCTL, play is recognized as a crucial aspect of childhood development, fostering creativity, imagination, and various skills. The organization prides itself on selecting toys that promote active learning and imagination while avoiding those that perpetuate gender stereotypes or commercialized themes. By providing a space for families to borrow quality toys and spend quality time together, the toy library aims to support and strengthen the community.
As a 100% volunteer-run organization, Hills Community Toy Library encourages community involvement and offers opportunities for individuals to contribute through volunteering. Research shows that volunteering not only benefits the community but also enhances social networks and provides personal rewards. Whether seeking to borrow toys or looking to volunteer, HCTL welcomes individuals to join in their mission of promoting healthy child development and community engagement.
