Hervey Bay Regional Gallery (HBRG) is a destination gallery located in the Fraser Coast region of Australia. Established in 1997, the gallery features a diverse range of exhibitions, workshops, and events that cater to both local residents and visitors. HBRG is committed to showcasing national touring exhibitions as well as internally curated shows that focus on hyper-local themes with universal appeal. The gallery’s rich history and connection to the community are evident in its dedication to honoring the Butchulla and Kabi Kabi People, acknowledging their cultural, spiritual, and economic significance.
Managed by the Fraser Coast Regional Council, Hervey Bay Regional Gallery is housed in the architecturally designed Fraser Coast Cultural Centre, which includes multiple exhibition spaces, a retail area, and a children’s workshop room. The gallery’s collection of contemporary Australian art reflects the diverse artistic landscape of the region, with a particular emphasis on supporting local artists. Through initiatives like the Girra: Fraser Coast National Art Prize and the Fiona Foley Residency, HBRG aims to promote Butchulla perspectives, truth-telling, and the exploration of complex histories and identities through art.
With a renewed focus on inclusivity and diversity, Hervey Bay Regional Gallery has recently launched its 2022-2026 Strategic Plan, outlining its commitment to creating a welcoming space for all members of the community. By collaborating with the Butchulla community and prioritizing Butchulla storytelling, the gallery seeks to engage audiences in meaningful cultural experiences. Through its innovative programming and dedication to showcasing local talent, HBRG continues to be a leader in the arts scene of the Fraser Coast region.
