Detailed Information

The Glenn Buchanan Swim School, established in 1989 by dual Olympic Bronze medallist Glenn Buchanan, offers comprehensive swimming lessons for children of all levels aged 5 months to 12 years. Located in Kirwan, the school’s dedicated pool provides a central and safe environment for learning. With a specialized Learn to Swim program developed over 40 years, the school is renowned as the most successful and longest-serving swimming program in Townsville.

Glenn Buchanan’s passion for swimming and water safety stems from his upbringing in Townsville and early exposure to Learn to Swim classes with Laurie Lawrence. His commitment to preventing drownings in North Queensland led him to combine his teaching and swimming expertise, resulting in the establishment of the Swim School. Thousands of children have benefited from the program, ranging from infants learning to swim independently by 16 months to competitive swimmers winning regional, state, and national titles.

Glenn’s philosophy focuses on building confidence and water safety skills in children, with the option to progress to competitive swimming for those interested. The Swim School’s legacy includes teaching multiple generations of families, showcasing its enduring impact on the community. By offering a year-round, purpose-built facility and a proven curriculum, the Glenn Buchanan Swim School continues to shape the next generation of competent and confident swimmers in Australia.
