Design Tasmania is a not-for-profit design center located in Launceston, Tasmania, dedicated to furthering design through exhibitions, collections, and advocacy since 1976. Embracing diversity and inclusivity, the center champions professionalism and aims to bring design to as many people as possible. With a focus on showcasing Tasmanian wood designers and makers, the Design Tasmania Wood Collection stands as the only museum collection of its kind in Australia, highlighting Tasmania’s unique position in the global design industry.

Founded by Gary Ogle Cleveland AM and Pat Cleveland, Design Tasmania continues to fulfill its mission of being the heart-center of design for Tasmania. Through public programs, the center engages over 100,000 visitors annually, offering activities for design enthusiasts and professionals alike. The Wood Collection, established in 1991, features over 80 pieces acquired biennially, supported by the Design Tasmania Fellows donor program.

Design Tasmania’s commitment to promoting Tasmania as a leader in the Australian design landscape is evident through its collaboration, innovation, and advocacy efforts.
