The Children and Parenting Support Service (CaPSS) is a free service funded by the Australian Government and operated by The Salvation Army in Melbourne, Victoria. With a focus on empowering individuals to enhance family relationships and strengthen community connections, CaPSS aims to reduce family breakdowns and increase participation in community activities. The program is designed to support parents in creating safe and positive environments for their children, utilizing evidence-based parenting strategies to promote positive change.
Aligned with The Salvation Army’s mission to build healthy communities, CaPSS offers a range of parenting support services to families with children aged from birth to 18 years old. Through workshops, group programs, and individual sessions, CaPSS practitioners work alongside parents to develop parenting skills, foster connections among families, and enhance interactions within the community. The program emphasizes the importance of parental knowledge and skills in supporting children’s development, school transitions, behavior management, and overall family well-being.
Recognizing the value of every individual on their parenting journey, CaPSS welcomes self-referrals from parents and carers, as well as referrals from community-based professionals and Salvation Army employees. By partnering with various child-focused programs and services, CaPSS aims to build connections within the community and provide tailored support to single parents. Through its commitment to inclusivity, safety, and the well-being of all ages, CaPSS strives to empower parents and caregivers to enjoy their parenting role and maintain positive relationships with their children.
