Detailed Information

Welcome to the Friends of the Australian Botanic Gardens Shepparton (FABGS). Incorporated in 2012, we are a not for profit organisation formed to support the Australian Botanic Gardens Shepparton Committee of Management in the establishment and ongoing development of the former landfill site, now showcasing Australian native and indigenous plants. Our brochures showcase our diverse collection of Australian native birds and flora, and we offer nature play experiences for visiting school and kinder groups. Your support and membership contribute to the ongoing development of this unique site, creating a legacy for future generations.

Many of our founding members were visionaries who saw the potential in transforming a former tip site into a unique and original botanic garden that would become a legacy for future generations. As the Gardens develop, so too does the Friends’ involvement through volunteer hours dedicated to working bees, propagation, education, fundraising, promotion, and tours. Recycling has been a cornerstone of the Garden design and principles, with innovative recycling and design showcased throughout the site. Join us in exploring, enjoying, and being part of this wonderful experience at the Australian Botanic Gardens Shepparton.

Our mission is to develop a new generational botanical experience accessible to both the Shepparton community and visitors. The Gardens aim to showcase Australian native plants, incorporate public art, and provide a safe and peaceful place for learning, relaxation, exercise, and a love of the natural environment. By encouraging community involvement and ownership of this unique setting, we strive to create a major Goulburn Valley conservation landmark that will be a valuable resource for the future. Join us in being part of this journey towards creating a sustainable and enriching environment for all.
