GLADSTONE ATHLETICS CLUB, formerly known as the Gladstone Amateur Athletics Club, has a rich history dating back to 1956 when it was established. Over the years, the club has evolved and in 1980, it was officially incorporated as the Gladstone Athletics Club. Affiliated with Little Athletics Queensland & Queensland Athletics, the club offers a competitive athletic program catering to individuals of all ages, including children as young as 4 and mature age competitors, as well as those with disabilities or impairments. With a stable membership base, the club has solidified its position as one of the largest little athletics clubs in the Central Coast Region.
The club’s home ground serves as a hub for various athletic events, including School Athletic Carnivals, Port Curtis Interschool Carnivals, and the annual Combined Events Carnival open to all Queensland athletic clubs. The club’s commitment to fostering a sense of community and sportsmanship is evident in its history, with a notable moment being the involvement of local runners in carrying the Olympic torch through Gladstone in 1956. This event marked the birth of the region’s first athletics club, showcasing the club’s deep roots in the local community and its dedication to promoting athletics.
Led by a dedicated committee, including positions such as President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Communications Manager, the Gladstone Athletics Club operates under a structured governance framework. The committee, elected annually at the end of each season, plays a crucial role in steering the club’s direction and ensuring its smooth operation. With a focus on inclusivity and athletic development, the club continues to uphold its legacy of providing a platform for individuals of all ages and abilities to engage in athletics and foster a love for sports.
