Detailed Information

Birdsland Reserve is a 75-hectare bushland sanctuary with a rich history dating back to the time of the Wurundjeri people. Originally cleared for farming, the site was later saved from urban development by the Shire of Sherbrooke in 1981. Since opening to the public in 1984, Birdsland has become a beloved community bushland reserve offering walking, riding, and mountain biking trails.

Home to a diverse range of native wildlife, Birdsland supports over 200 species of native plants and has been identified as a habitat for more than 130 different native bird species, including the majestic Wedgetail Eagle and Powerful Owl. The reserve’s conservation efforts and commitment to preserving the natural environment make it a vital sanctuary for both flora and fauna in the region.

Located just 50 minutes from Melbourne, Birdsland Reserve provides a peaceful escape for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. With its connection to the Dargon Trail leading to Lysterfield Lake Park, visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty of the Australian bushland while respecting the guidelines in place to ensure the safety of both visitors and the environment.
