Detailed Information

Haig Park Nature Playground is a site-specific nature play area located near Sullivan’s Creek intersection in Canberra. Designed for children aged 4 to 10, the playground incorporates sensory elements such as sound, smell, and touch, along with cubby and adventure play structures. The project aims to provide a unique space for kids to engage in play and learning within a natural environment, featuring rocks, logs, sand, and sunshine to stimulate their imagination and creativity.

Supported by a range of programming including “come and try” days, workshops, and performances, the Nature Play facility at Haig Park seeks to increase visitation by children, parents, and guardians. The initiative aims to address the limited opportunities for facilitated play in the area and transform Haig Park into a destination space for families. By offering educational opportunities for local pre-schools and schools, the playground aims to enhance the overall experience of visitors and encourage longer dwell times in the park.

Managed by the City Renewal Authority, the establishment of the Haig Park Nature Playground reflects Canberra’s evolution into a diverse and vibrant city with a distinctive urban identity. With a focus on shaping the growth of the central parts of Canberra, the Authority’s board comprises experienced directors with expertise in urban design, architecture, planning, sustainable development, and community engagement. Through initiatives like the Nature Play facility, the City Renewal Authority is committed to creating a great place for residents and visitors to live, explore, and enjoy.
