Detailed Information

YMCA Belconnen Early Learning Centre is part of the Y Canberra Region’s Early Learning Centres, dedicated to inspiring and nurturing children to become independent and confident young individuals. Established in the 1970s, the Belconnen centre opened its doors in 2010, joining four other ELCs across Canberra. The educators at YMCA Belconnen are passionate about creating a nurturing, play-based environment that fosters children’s learning, growth, confidence, and self-discovery.

At YMCA Belconnen Early Learning Centre, early learning is viewed as a crucial period in a child’s life, with the first 1,000 days recognized as pivotal for future success. The centre focuses on creating real-world environments that encourage children to explore, adapt, and connect with their community. Each centre has a unique layout and pedagogy co-created with directors, educators, children, and families, ensuring a tailored approach to learning and development for children from six weeks old to school age.

The centre’s play-based early learning curriculum emphasizes learning through action, encouraging children to use their imagination through various activities such as digging, drawing, crafting, and role-playing. Following the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), YMCA Belconnen nurtures children’s sense of Belonging, Being, and Becoming, providing a solid foundation for their future growth and development.
